Things to Consider When Planning an Elopement During Covid

If you are on lock down, stay home. It’s that simple. Lockdowns are enforced for a reason and are put in place to keep everyone safe. You want to get married, I want to photograph it, but if it means that it’s putting us all in danger then it’s not worth it. Love can wait, but your health cannot.
Keep It SHORT
I know this may also seem like common sense. But keep it as short as possible. Save your party and celebration for another day. It sucks that this has to be the case but it is a pandemic. The longer you’re out in public around others - the more you’re affecting others.
Location
This one is maybe an obvious one but be careful picking a location. You want to make sure that you pick a location that will not be packed so you’re not breaking any social distancing laws. Check out websites like Peerspace for spaces to rent for an elopement.
Timing
Make sure it is legal to be getting married during the time of your elopement. I know you really want to get married, but also consider the safety of everyone involved. If you legally cannot be getting married - don’t.
Permits
A lot of parks require permits for elopements. Make sure you call your park office and get the proper permitting if it’s needed.
Guests
If possible limit the guest list as much as possible. Their are constantly updates as to how many people you can have so make sure you are up to date with the ordinances in place. The whole point of an elopement is to keep the guest list small and if possible just the two of you so keep that in mind. Otherwise you’re looking at having an “intimate wedding” and not an elopement.
Be Flexible
You have to be flexible with elopements during this time. If the laws change and you can’t have your elopement anymore - listen to the rules. You do not want to have your elopement broken up by law enforcement kicking you out (yes this can happen). Everyone has learned to be flexible with everything going on. So if it’s not safe - postpone.
